Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal. – Earl Nightingale
Progressive... Merriam-Webster defines it as something that increases in extent or severity --Powerful stuff, huh?!
I bet we are thinking of the same thing; success doesn't happen overnight. It's not a one time deal, it is achieved in SUCCESSion (oh, I guess that's where the word came from too... hehe). One achieved goal after the other.
Setting goals is one thing, achieving them is another; but following success with another achievement is a whole new ball game. I was guilty of living mediocrity, I'd achieve one goal and think to myself "that'll do". I'm good, I live with the effects of the so called success, and milk it until it runs dry. I'll reap the rewards and feel contented for quite sometime then when the last drop leaves, the emptiness sets in.
More often than not, we only see what's directly in front of us. We never really take the time to look farther than what is normal, thus, causing us to set short term goals; once we achieve that we get lost, and we find ourselves back to square one. This starts a vicious cycle that never really gets us anywhere. We have that impression that we are going somewhere; but in reality, we are swimming in circles in a pond that leads no where. A dead end.
Never mistake ACTIVITY with PRODUCTIVITY.
Sometimes we get caught in the flurry of things that we forget our goals. We define them, we write them down, we create action plans but we forget to persist. We mistake activity with productivity thinking that as long as we are doing something, we are going somewhere. I made myself believe that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing and I am where I am supposed to be. I took root, became complacent and comfortable where I was. Slowly, things started to become mundane and meaningless. The job that I so loved doing became a tiresome repetitive activity. Why? Because I forgot to set another goal. Life is not all about success... it about a SERIES of SUCCESSFUL ENDEAVORS, one ACHIEVED GOAL after the other.
Rewriting my road map to success:
Define Goals-- Creat Action Plans-- Act--Evaluate-- Define Goals...
awesome stuff.
