"What we see depends mainly on what we look for."~John Lubbock
What happens to the person who needs to live up to our expectations? Nothing, the person lives according to his ulterior motives and desires with no knowledge what-so-ever of our expectations. The person lives as he is, as we wait for the fulfillment that we anticipate.
What happens when that person fails the first expectation? To him-- nothing; to the expectant-- everything. The person waiting then brings the expectation to another level-- of future disappointment. We now view it as blatant disregard of what we desire, then we get frustrated and angry at that person.
We have all been hardwired to live NOT according to other people's expectations, but our own. We do the things we do because we want to, and NOT because it is what is expected of us. After several failed expectations, we become too focused on what we want that we neglect to notice those that need our attention most. No matter how hard some people try to live up to our specifications, as long as it does not match, it WILL NOT register in our radar. People may jump through flaming hoops to please us, but we would not even notice. Why? Because now, we are too hell bent on getting what we want.
Now, aint that a little unfair?
